Last Diwali I bought a heavy embroidered sherwani for 3500. I wore it for 3 hours on Diwali night, sweated a lot, and never wore it again. It is still in my cupboard. Why Simple Kurta is Better Than Heavy Sherwani for Diwali 2026
In 2026, Diwali fashion for men is moving towards minimal ethnic. Heavy embroidery and shiny fabrics look outdated and uncomfortable. Simple cotton kurta with good fit looks more expensive than heavy sherwani.
Also, simple kurtas can be reused. My white kurta with beige Nehru jacket I wore on Diwali last year, I wore it again for a friend’s engagement and for Navratri. Sherwani can only be worn once a year.

How I Styled Diwali Outfits – My Photos
Look 1 – My Main Diwali Look: White kurta with small embroidery plus beige Nehru jacket plus white pajama plus brown jutti. This is old money festive. Looks expensive, costs 700 only.
Look 2 – Olive Kurta: Olive green kurta plus white pajama. Olive is earthy tone and looks premium in Diwali lights photos. My most photogenic look.
Look 3 – Black Kurta: Black kurta plus beige trousers plus black loafers. Black for Diwali night dinner, looks classy and not too festive.
Look 4 – Cream Co-ord: Cream ethnic co-ord set. This is trending in 2026 – co-ord ethnic. Comfortable for whole day.
3 Mistakes That Make Diwali Outfit Look Cheap
Mistake 1 – Too Much Shine: I bought a shiny silk kurta last year. In photos it reflected flash and looked cheap. Cotton with matte finish looks more expensive.
Mistake 2 – Wrong Pajama Fit: My first kurta pajama was too tight in pajama. Could not sit for puja. Pajama should be relaxed, not skinny.
Mistake 3 – Sneakers With Kurta: I wore white sneakers with kurta for Diwali. Looked like I was going to college. Wear brown jutti or mojaris for Diwali. They cost 250 and change whole look.
Final Verdict – What Should You Buy for Diwali 2026?
Buy white kurta + beige Nehru jacket. This combo costs 700, looks like 3000, and works for Diwali, wedding, and any function. Do not buy heavy sherwani for one day.
Buy from local market where you can touch fabric. Online Diwali kurtas look good in photo but fabric is thin. My local market kurta is thicker and better.
